Homework

WEEKLY HOMEWORK ROUTINE

MATH (15 to 20 minutes each day):
Math homework will be assigned nightly except for Friday.  Math facts must be mastered and practiced at home either on the computer or with flash cards each day.  We will register your child on IXL to practice math facts as well as other skills in other academic subjects.

SPELLING (5 to 10 minutes each day):
There will be nightly spelling/vocabulary homework to be done in your child's Word Work Notebook.
GRAMMAR (5 to 10 minutes each day)

There will be a grammar lesson taught each day and practiced repeatedly in class.  The specific grammar topic will be communicated through each teacher's weekly email to parents so that you can support the topic at home as your child is reading and writing.

READING (30 minutes or more each day):
Children should be reading 15 – 25 pages or 30 or more minutes each night in order to reach their independent reading goals and complete reading journal entries as assigned by their homeroom teacher.  Each teacher will be using Storyworks magazine, it will be to each teacher's decision if any component of this magazine will be used as homework.
Some of the fourth grade teachers may require a Reading Log to be keep track of nightly reading.

ASSIGNMENT NOTEBOOKS (checked each day):

Please check in with your child's assignment notebook each day.  Your child should have each assignment written in the appropriate box.  This is a critical organizational skill to develop for middle and high school.  Please monitor it closely at home.

TAKE HOME FOLDERS:

A folder with students’ completed work will come home each Wednesday with important information from the school. In addition, you will find periodic grade reports in the Wednesday folder so please go over each piece of work and grade with your child.  Please empty the folder, keep their work, sign the enclosed card, and return the folder each Thursday.
